Tips for Parents

Here are a few tips for parents to help their middle schooler be successful.

  • Establish a homework routine.   When your child gets home from school, have him put his backpack in the same place everyday.  It is often best to have an established time and place to begin homework.
  • Check your child’s agenda book.  Our students should write their assignments for each class in their agenda book.  The description of the assignment was copied from their teacher’s board, so it is correct.  If your child says the assignment is complete, just ask to see it.
  • Set expectations.  Most students want to please, so let your child know what you except from them.  Discuss the importance of grades, trying their best, and choosing the correct behaviors.
  • Check the school district and C. E. McCall Middle School’s web sites.  This is the best and easiest place to find answers to questions and to see what is happening.
  • Get involved. The easiest way to get to know your child’s friends is to volunteer in their activities.  Also, this can give you an opportunity to share a passion.
