Study Tips

Set up a ‘homework period’ at the same time every day. This will get you into the routine of studying.
Create a study area. When you become accustomed to studying in the same place, your mind will automatically kick in when you do not feel like studying.
Get organized. Keep your notes and handouts for each class together in a notebook or folder. Also, place the materials you need to study in your study area, so you do not waste time looking for them.
Use your agenda. This will keep you from forgetting about an assignment or test.
Study short and often. You will remember things faster if the brain is not overworked. Four short (15 minutes) study sessions a week are more effective that two long ones.
Prioritize: do your most important work first. You are the most alert when you first start, so begin with the most difficult and important work.
Begin assignments as soon as they are given. This will increase the quality of your work by spreading the workload out, and avoiding a panic just before it is due.
Review notes regularly. Taking good notes is the first step and reviewing them regularly is the second step. The best way to review information is to read the information aloud and often.
Problem solve. Once you have completed your homework, redo some of the questions to see if you get them correct. This is an excellent way to study math.
Take regular breaks. The general rule of thumb is a 10 minute break for every 60 minutes of studying.
Reward. When you reach a goal, give yourself a reward. It does not need to be anything elaborate, but something you enjoy.
