| Welcome to the Title I Services page for Montoursville Area School District. Our mission is to support students in grades Kindergarten through Grade 3 who need extra help in reading. Through small group instruction, research-based programs, and strong collaboration, we strive to help students become confident, lifelong readers. |
What is Title I?
Title I is a federally funded program under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). It provides supplemental reading support to students who are experiencing difficulty, regardless of economic status.
Key Objectives:
- Improve student achievement in reading
- Support professional development for educators
- Strengthen family and community involvement
Our Elementary School Program uses a variety of evidence-based programs to support literacy development: Resources include, but are not limited to:
- 95% Group – Structured literacy intervention
- Heggerty – Phonological awareness
- Wilson Fundations – Foundational reading skills
- Flyleaf Reading – Decodable texts and comprehension
- Wonders Reading Core Program – Integrated literacy resources
Instruction is delivered in small groups by:
- Certified Title I Reading Specialists
- Highly qualified paraprofessionals
- Classroom teachers working collaboratively
Goals of Title I at MASD
- Help students develop strong reading skills
- Build confidence and engagement in learning
- Encourage communication between families and educators
- Provide equitable access to high-quality instruction
Increased Family Engagement
We believe families play a vital role in student success. Our Title I program includes:
- Annual Family Reading Night (fall)
- Home reading tips and resources
- Regular updates and progress reports
- Opportunities to meet with Title I staff
