CTY Talent Search: Grades 7-8
The CTY Talent Search identifies, assesses, and recognizes students with exceptional mathematical and/or verbal reasoning abilities. It provides an opportunity for eligible 7th and 8th grade students to compare their academic abilities with those of other highly able students. Students are eligible to participate in the Talent Search based on their PSSA scores. To be eligible students must have scored at the advanced level on the math and/or reading section.
Students who would like to participate in the Talent Search need to enroll (fee $37) and apply at www.cty.jhu.edu/discover. After enrolling with CTY, students will receive registration materials for the SAT and ACT, which are used as an above-grade-level test to better assess the mathematical and verbal reasoning abilities of highly able seventh graders. The Talent Search offers a variety of services and opportunities after they test. These opportunities are outlined on their web site. Please be aware that the closest testing center for the administration of the SAT is Williamsport Area High School. The ACT is offered at Pennsylvania College of Technology and Hughesville Senior High School.
