The Montoursville Area School District is proud to offer our 1:1 Device Program, ensuring every student has access to their own dedicated learning tool to support both in-school and at-home education.
Each student is assigned an individual device tailored to their grade level and specific educational needs.
In the classroom and beyond, our 1:1 devices help to:
- Enhance everyday instruction with engaging digital tools and resources
- Boost student participation and collaboration
- Strengthen communication among students, teachers, parents, and administrators through platforms like email, Google Classroom, ParentSquare, and more.
We believe this program empowers students to take ownership of their learning, build essential digital skills for the future, and stay connected in a safe, supported environment. Families can learn more about device care, acceptable use guidelines, and optional insurance options through the district’s Technology Services department or your child’s school office.

Online Safety
Web Filtering and CIPA Compliance
As part of MASD’s compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA), all district networks and student devices filter student web browsing to prevent access to content that is considered obscene, pornographic, or otherwise harmful to minors.
Our filtering solution categorizes websites and allows us to efficiently restrict student access based on those categories. Unknown websites are blocked by default.
Student Safety Alerts
MASD also recognizes the need for student safety alerts, and we have implemented safety alerts on all student Chromebooks.
Safety alerts detect digital behavior indicating concerning activity, such as violence or self-harm, and immediately alerts the appropriate school administrators.
Email Communication
All MASD students are provided with a district email account. These email accounts are used to access various educational platforms, and they allow safe and efficient communication for things such as homework assignments and Google Classroom notifications.
By default, these email accounts are unable to communicate beyond the district and our list of pre-approved external contacts.
Online Educational Service Providers and COPPA Compliance
The growing availability of web-based tools and applications is providing teachers with new and exciting methods to improve, enrich, and diversify the delivery of curriculum and instruction to students. Many web-based tools and applications use data to create accounts and to customize the learning experience.
Montoursville Area School District makes every effort to select and implement products that protect the confidentiality of students’ personally identifiable information and that
avoid third party promotional marketing material. In order for students to use some selected web-based tools and applications, it may be necessary for the district to provide student data. In addition to data provided by the district, online educational service providers may collect additional data using cookies, logs, and other Internet-based technologies.
Service providers communicate important information about their collection, protection, use, and disclosure of data through their own privacy policies. You can find a list of these service providers and their privacy policies on the district website under the “parents” tab. This list includes the specific apps/websites approved for use in our district, and it is updated regularly, so be sure to check back often for changes.
Parents/guardians can request to review and have removed personal information that an online educational service provider has collected from the student. If a parent/guardian wishes to review or have removed the data provided to a provider by the district, a written request should be sent to the students’ principal. In some instances, depending upon the nature of the request, the parent/guardian may be required to contact the provider directly.
Device Insurance
As part of MASD’s one-to-one device initiative, each student is provided an appropriate learning device and a charger for that device. This optional insurance program is designed to minimize the cost of accidental damage done to these devices. Families have the yearly option of opting in or out of this program.
If opting IN to this program, the device assigned to your child will be insured for the current school year, and you will not be invoiced for any accidental damage done to the device.
If opting OUT of this program, the device assigned to your child will NOT be insured for the current school year, and you will be invoiced for any damage done to the device. You may choose to opt in at any time, but damage done prior to opting in will not be covered.
Submit the Device Insurance Enrollment Form online or to the school office.
Insurance Coverage
The MASD Student Device Insurance Program will cover the cost of:
- Accidental damage to your assigned device.
- Accidental damage to your assigned charger.
