Scholarship Information for Seniors

You finally made it! You are a senior at Montoursville Area High School. The day you’ve been waiting for is finally here. Expect your senior year to go by quickly. There is a lot for you to do between the first day of your senior year and the night of graduation. This site was prepared by your high school counselors to help you through this process. We encourage both students and parents to see their high school counselor with any questions or concerns. We are here to assist you. Remember to start your planning very early in the year to place you in a better position to reach your goals for after graduation.

Remember to check the counseling table in the main office often for scholarships as it is updated throughout the year. A digital list is also shared on the scholarship tab on this website.

If you are planning on playing sports at the college level, you should familiarize yourself with the NCAA website. On that site you can register with the NCAA Eligibility Center and there is also a Guide for the College Bound Student Athlete (a guide for you and your parents). The address is www.eligibilitycenter.org. The guide can be found under “Resources.” On the site you will also find the list of our high school’s approved core courses. NCAA also requires that SAT scores come directly from the College Board. If you will be registering with NCAA, you will need to select them as a recipient of your SAT scores. NCAA’s code for that is “9999.”

If you are planning to apply to Commonwealth University (Lock Haven, Mansfield, Bloomsburg), Lycoming College, or Penn College, you should participate in the Instant Decision Days here at MAHS. On scheduled dates each year, an admissions representative comes here to MAHS and walks you through the application, reviews your transcript, meets with you one-on-one and gives you an admission decision on the spot! See Miss Hornberger with any questions.

DON’T FORGET TO LET THE COUNSELING OFFICE KNOW WHEN YOU HAVE MADE YOUR DECISION FOR YOUR POST-SECONDARY PLANS, SO YOU CAN ADD YOUR INFORMATION TO THE WARRIOR FUTURES SHEET! SEE MISS HORNBERGER WITH ANY QUESTIONS.

Dual Enrollment – Grades 11 & 12

The dual enrollment coursework opportunities at MAHS exist for the purpose of academic advancement, and early access to cost-effective college credits. These courses are typically not courses that are brick-and-mortar at the high school and are typically in an online format offered through universities and colleges with whom we have an agreement.

Currently, MAHS has agreement with the following colleges/universities:

  • Penn College (See Penn College Dual Enrollment – considered concurrent enrollment)
  • Commonwealth University (Online – Asynchronous/Partial Synchronous)
  • BYU (Online – Asynchronous)
  • Harris Learning – Multiple College/University Affiliations (Online – Asynchronous)
  • Lycoming College (In-Person)

Note: There is no guarantee of transferability of online courses to your selected universities. Transfer decisions/discussions occur between college applicants/students and admissions at the respective university or college.

Dual enrollment coursework will be selected, if applicable, in collaboration between student, parent(s), high school principal, and 11-12 grade counselor. All course selections for each semester will require final approval from school counselor and administration before students are scheduled into them.

All of our dual enrollment partners function differently, so the earlier a student can begin the process, the quicker enrollment timelines/deadlines can be established to ensure access to coursework.

Recommended Requirements for Participation:

  • GPA of 90%
  • Proficiency on Keystone Exams
  • Students should not have any attendance concerns.
  • Students must be self-motivated, with excellent time management skills, and history of meeting course deadlines and an ability to self-advocate.

Grading Guidelines:

  • Students entering dual enrollment/early college coursework should understand grading relative to their courses.
  • The grade earned will appear on the MAHS transcript upon course completion.
  • The course and grade earned will be included in the GPA and weighted between Honors and AP coursework at 1.075.

Course Materials:

  • As of this time, MAHS will cover costs for Dual Enrollment courses
  • Required textbooks and/or materials will be purchased by/billed to the student

Summer School

Summer School offers students the opportunity to receive additional instruction in a course in advance of the regular school year. By passing the course(s), the students earn full credit.

World History (incoming 11th) & CSS (incoming 12th) enrichment courses will be offered each summer. Students can check to participate in these courses when scheduling in the spring. More information, including applications and payment will be shared out in May.

Credit Recovery

  • Summer School may offer students the opportunity to receive additional instruction in a course that they were not able to pass during the regular school year.
  • By passing the course(s), the students earn full credit.
  • Please contact school administration to discuss the cost and process for registering students for credit recovery courses over the summer.

Summer School Attendance Policy

Because of the shortness of time and the quantity of work to be covered during summer school, attendance must be held as a top priority. Consequently, students taking the enrichment courses (6 weeks) are permitted to miss a maximum of 2 days (1 day is considered 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.). Except for extenuating circumstances, any absence beyond two-day limit will require a doctor’s excuse, or the student may be dropped from the program. Time off for vacation or summer camp is not considered an extenuating circumstance.

Because the course offering is determined by the number of students, there will not be any refunds regardless of whether the student quits or is dropped. Payment is due on the first day of classes with a check made payable to Montoursville Area High School.
