On May 1, 2024, the nominations for the annual Ray of Light Ceremony were announced, as well as the merit competition medalists.
The Ray of Lights ceremony, hosted by the Community Theatre League (CTL) of Williamsport, is a “Tony’s-esque” event created to celebrate and showcase high school theater programs around the area.
Students can be nominated and win awards for their performances in plays/musicals and participate in a Merit competition to win medals.
Typically, nominations come out two weeks before the ceremony, and winners/runners-up are announced live at the ceremony; this year on May 18.
The following Montoursville students received nominations for their performances:

Naomi Alexander – Outstanding Dramatic Performance in a Supporting Female Role, and Outstanding Musical Performance in a Leading Female Role
Alice Ravert – Outstanding Musical Performance in a Leading Female Role
Lillian McCulloch – Outstanding Musical Performance in a Supporting Female Role
Kristen Dinges – Outstanding Musical Performance in a Supporting Male Role

When asked how they felt about their nominations, these students were very enthusiastic. Junior Naomi Alexander said, “There is so much work and love that goes into these roles and it’s so exciting to see them get the recognition they deserve!”
Others like junior Hepler said he was very “proud,” and junior Hazen said she felt “great” about her nomination.
In addition to students receiving nominations, whole productions can also be nominated for awards.
MAHS’s production of “Freaky Friday” was nominated for Best Ensemble in a Musical, Outstanding Achievement in Vocal Performance, Outstanding Achievement in Choreography, and Outstanding Musical Production (Northern Region).
MAHS’s production of “Hurry Up and Wait” was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Backstage Crew, and MAHS also received a nomination for the Ray Phillips Memorial Trophy for Best Drama Program.
Junior Brenna Rosenbaum said, “It’s an honor to be recognized along with so many other talented individuals.”
For the Merit Competition, students who participate have the option to either compete in vocal or dramatic performances. This year, three students were announced to have won medals:

Sophomore Grace Barkauskas, who performed Darlene from “The Diviners” and Jessie from “Follow Her Down” for her audition, said, “I worked hard on my monologues and a silver medal is definitely reward enough for me!”
The MAHS Theatre Department will be attending the Ray of Lights ceremony on May 18 with all of the other participating schools where the winners/runners-up of each category will be announced live.
