A quick look into the softball team’s season

The Montoursville softball team was ready to play this season, in spite of challenges up front.

This year the team lost two very important senior pitchers which has given the team a whole new set of players on the mound.

Coach Mikayla Arnold, who has been coaching softball for almost five years, says this is one of the big challenges that the team will face this year. Arnold said that whoever is on the pitching staff won’t be used to pitching a lot of varsity innings so that is going to be a big cliff for them.

“We expect a lot of players to be able to play different positions,” said Arnold.

The team will be very versatile this year and players will have many different positions. A freshman on the team, Lia Bozochovic, plays over three positions, but mainly center field and shortstop.

Arnold hopes that with the changes this year, the team will win a district championship and said “I have all the confidence in the world that the group of girls we have this year can achieve that.”

Arnold is specifically said she is looking to the senior class to bring the leadership that they need to be able to make a championship happen. Bozochovic said, “The team is very supportive and encouraging.”

Bozochovic later added that she looks up to her older teammates for their advice on how to become a better player.

“Montoursville softball is different from other teams because the coaches help you to get better and make it a happy environment to be in,” Bozochovic said.

While the girls on the team are great athletes, Arnold says they are super fun to be around. Bozochovic also says “Playing for Montoursville has brought some joy back into the sport that I love and has given me the confidence to do better.”
