November Athletes of the Month: Soccer

Each month, the Arrowhead features senior athletes from the school chosen by the coaches for their dedication, teamwork, and other outstanding characteristics and skills. This month, Marissa Hartland and Gavin Cott are being recognized for girls’ and boys’ soccer.

Q: How long have you been playing soccer?

A: “I played when I was 5-6, took a few years off, and started playing again when I was 10 through now.”

Q: What is your favorite thing about high school soccer?

A: “The energy from working as a team with some of my favorite people.”

Q: What is your favorite memory from high school soccer?

A: “I had a lot of great memories, but one that is standing out is having to make a pit stop during a cemetery workout with Kenna Bennett to pee.”

Q: What is your favorite memory from all your years of playing soccer?

A: “A favorite memory from all of the years I have played soccer would have to be at a soccer tournament over the summer when I got plowed into and went into a cartwheel on the field rather than flying into the ground. A few years of gymnastics paid off!”

Q: Do you plan to play soccer in college?

A:  “I will likely join club soccer or intramural!”

Q: What college do you plan to attend and what is going to be your major?

A: “I am undecided on which college right now. I am planning to attend a college with an Accelerated (5-year) Physician Assistant program.”

Q: What is your favorite thing about being a part of this soccer team?

A: “My favorite thing about being on this team is the fact that it’s like having a second family. Most of us have played together for so many years.”

Q: How do you mentally prepare for games?

A: “Drinking a berry-flavored Gatorade Zero before every game gets me mentally prepared.”

Q: What is your favorite warm-up song?

A: “My favorite warm-up song is ‘Can’t Hold Us’.”

Q: How long have you been playing soccer?

A: “13  years”

Q: What is your favorite thing about soccer?

A: “The friends you make on the way.”

Q: What has been your favorite memory from high school soccer?

A: “Winning our first playoff game.”

Q: What is your favorite memory from all your years of soccer?

A: “Playing on the F.C. Montour team just in general.”

Q: What are your future plans?

A: Cott is undecided as to where he plans to attend college and what he plans to do.

Q: What is your favorite thing about being a part of this soccer team?

A: “Working together to achieve our goals.”

Q: How do you mentally prepare for games?

A: “I just go in knowing I just have to do my role on the field.”

Q: What is your favorite warm-up song?

A: “5% Tint.”
