Academic Decathlon competed at the South Williamsport Jr.\/Sr. High School on Jan. 15 for its annual winter scrimmage. The subjects students competed in were Economics, Math, Music, and Science.<\/span><\/p>\n

Montoursville scored fourth place out of seven competing teams from other schools across Central Pennsylvania.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The medal winners are listed below:<\/span><\/p>\n

Junior Ruby Watts – Bronze in Economics<\/span><\/p>\n

Also competing were senior Emily Gladu, juniors Sadie Hall, Cat Hittle, Ryleigh McConnaughhay, Elias Rodriguez, and Rylee Tillema, sophomores Allison Chapman, Abel Conahan, Nadia Farenish, Storie Holtzman, Charlie Jackson, Angelina Rockey, and Alexis Zimmerman-West, and freshmen Giulian Berardelli, Reagan Greene, and Izabella Weaver.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The team has gained lots of members over this school year.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEvery year is different. People jumped in [this year] with both feet and did well, it was exciting,\u201d commented AcDec Coach Mr. Mitch Hart.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t really go in with any expectations, but [AcDec] is fun and I like it,\u201d said new member junior Sadie Hall about her expectations of what the club would be like.<\/span><\/p>\n

Junior Captain Morgan Hood\u2019s favorite part of the meet was winning her Bronze<\/span> Medal in Music.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c[Winning a medal] felt so good. Music has always been something I\u2019ve been passionate about, so I was in tears when I won,\u201d said Hood.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Jan. 30, the team will be heading to Carlisle High School for Districts, where members will compete in all ten subjects.<\/span><\/p>\n

The theme this year is The Roaring Twenties. Practices run from 3:30 to 5:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students who have questions or wish to join should talk to Hart. <\/span><\/p>\n

For Hart, getting to know students is the best part of coaching the AcDec team. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEvery<\/span>one brings something different to the team,\u201d Hart said.<\/span><\/p>\n
