Photo by Catherine Hittle<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif\">country in her speech titled \u201cBravery Over Land and Sea\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif\">\u201cI wanted to learn more about his time in the military,\u201d Rosenbaum said. \u201cI was surprised to learn about the conflicts he was in during his time in service.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif\">Weng interviewed Montoursville\u2019s own security resource officer Ed Dammer and gave his story in a speech titled \u201cA Lifetime of Service\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif\">\u201c[Dammer] had some really cool experiences prior to becoming a security resource officer,\u201d Weng said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif\">Both Rosenbaum and Weng found meaningful experiences in the interviews and speeches.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif\">\u201c[The ceremony] means a lot to me because my great grandfather and my great uncle were both in the military,\u201d Rosenbaum said. \u201cI never got the chance to actually hear their stories, so I wanted to be able to have the chance to hear the stories of others.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif\">\u201cAt first, I was hesitant about giving a speech, but Mrs. Dangle encouraged me to do it and I am glad she did,\u201d said Weng. \u201cI learned that it is very important to thank veterans, not only on Veteran\u2019s Day, but every day because they sacrifice so much to protect us.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8554\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8554\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8554 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.montoursville.k12.pa.us\/thearrowhead\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/12\/IMG_1766-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.montoursville.k12.pa.us\/thearrowhead\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/12\/IMG_1766-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/www.montoursville.k12.pa.us\/thearrowhead\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/12\/IMG_1766-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.montoursville.k12.pa.us\/thearrowhead\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/12\/IMG_1766-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https:\/\/www.montoursville.k12.pa.us\/thearrowhead\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/12\/IMG_1766-1536x2048.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/www.montoursville.k12.pa.us\/thearrowhead\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/12\/IMG_1766-scaled.jpeg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8554\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">Senior Evelyn Weng recites her speech on Montoursville\u2019s SRO Ed Dammer at the Montoursville Veterans Day ceremony. Photo by Catherine Hittle<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif\">In addition to the speeches by Rosenbaum and Weng, there were also bagpipe performances, a scripture reading, words of inspiration given by Reverend Robert Rice, and a performance by Lyter Elementary School\u2019s choir, which both Rosenbaum and Weng agree was their favorite part of the ceremony.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif\">\u201cThey were so cute and everyone seemed to like their performance,\u201d Weng said. \u201cI still remember when I was in elementary school and performed for the veterans.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif\">Rho Kappa adviser Mrs. Stacey Dangle also finds importance and meaning in the ceremony every year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif\">\u201cHearing stories of those who sacrificed for this country is very impactful, especially compared to reading about historical and current events through a secondary source,\u201d Dangle said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif\">Dangle has a personal connection to the ceremony and Veterans Day, as her step-brother is a veteran who served for 25 years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif\">\u201cIt is important that students do not take our freedoms for granted and understand that these men and women are responsible for our continued freedom and individual rights,\u201d Dangle said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif\">Rho Kappa has been attending the Veterans Day ceremony for at least ten years, and Dangle plans to continue the tradition because, she said, \u201cThe messages delivered that day are too important to miss.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong><em><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif\">Featured Photo (at top): The Montoursville Memorial Cemetery is filled with American flags for Veterans Day to honor the veterans who have and are continuing to serve the country.
