Every month, the Montoursville and Warrensville Lions Clubs pick two seniors to recognize as students of the month. The Arrowhead is not responsible for choosing the students of the month.<\/em><\/p>\n

Montoursville Borough Boy: Gabriel Vanderwall<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What sports, clubs, and\/or activities are you involved in? \"\"<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cFootball, wrestling, Key Club, National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Spanish Club and Student Government.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: As of right now, what are your plans for after high school?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cGo to college for biomedical engineering.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What is your favorite memory?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cMy favorite memory is when we finally beat Danville in football this year.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What is your favorite quote?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cMy favorite quote is, \u2018It is never too late to be what you might have been,\u2019 by George Eliot.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: Do you have a favorite school tradition? If so, what is it?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cMy favorite school tradition is the Battle of the Bridge game with Loyalsock.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What is something that you enjoy doing in your free time?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cI enjoy lifting with my friends at the gym in my free time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: Pick either a favorite singer\/band\/song, movie\/TV show, or book, and tell me a bit about why it is your favourite!<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cMy favorite singer is George Strait because I like country music and my family all likes him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What is a goal of yours for senior year?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cA goal for senior year is to commit to a good college for the next four years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: If you could give any advice to future seniors, what would it be?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cAdvice that I would give to future seniors is to make sure that they enjoy their years in high school because even though the work is sometimes boring, these are the times you are able to be with friends.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What sports, clubs, and\/or activities are you involved in? \"\"<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201c[I am] choir vice president, Musical Theater Club vice president, Theater Arts Club vice president, Thespian Honor Society vice president, a PMEA District Choir Festival participant, a flute section leader in the Marching Warrior Band, Student Government co-president, National Honor Society president, Key Club PA Division 7 Lieutenant Governor, and the Class of 2026 historian. [I am also in] concert band, jazz band, the play and musical, Mu Alpha Theta, National English Honor Society, Spanish Club, Homecoming Committee, Prom Committee, [and I am on the] Arrowhead Print Staff as the Business Manager and Social Media Editor. I also dance at The Katie Benson School of Dance and work at Eder\u2019s Ice Cream!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: As of right now, what are your plans for after high school?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cI plan to attend college to double major in Music Education with an Instrumental Concentration on flute and Elementary Education, with hopes of being an elementary music teacher.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What is your favorite memory?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cI have so many, it\u2019s hard to pick just one! Walking down Main Street in Magic Kingdom on our band and choir Disney World trip and soaking in the music and magic; performing at last year\u2019s spring band and choir concerts alongside some of my best friends who have since graduated but will always have a special place in my heart; Class Day and graduation, which are both a nice way to close out the year and are always super sentimental; all of the Homecoming activities, and hanging out with my friends a few years ago on our band trip to Boston, of course.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What is your favorite quote?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cMy favorite quote is, \u2018When given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kind\u2019 -R.J. Palacio.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: Do you have a favorite school tradition? If so, what is it?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cClass Day and all of the Homecoming traditions! I love celebrating the seniors and their impact on the school and I think it\u2019s so special when they come back for a not-so-surprise visit for the Homecoming football game in the fall!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What is something that you enjoy doing in your free time?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cI enjoy singing and playing the piano, either by myself or with friends. If I have lots of spare time, I also like to sit down and read a book on occasion!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: Pick either a favorite singer\/band\/song, movie\/TV show, or book, and tell me a bit about why it is your favorite!<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cI really like [the movie] “Wonder,” based on the book by R.J. Palacio. It\u2019s held a special place in my heart ever since it came out when I was a kid, and I always admired how pure it was. The characters are portrayed wonderfully and it tells a beautiful story. Although I must say, the book was better!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What is a goal of yours for senior year?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cI have become a goal-setter in recent years, and it\u2019s helped me achieve a lot! I\u2019ve realized that if I set more manageable goals, then I\u2019ll feel better when I achieve them! My goals this year are centered around trying new and old things and seeing how they turn out! I set a goal for myself to do all the things I\u2019ve missed out on in high school, like the fall play for example. I also have the goal of auditioning for all of the theater productions, band and choir festivals, and college. By setting these goals, I\u2019m still committing to working hard in preparation for them, but the end result is ultimately not up to me, which is why I don\u2019t make myself the goal of \u201cgetting my dream role\u201d for the musical for example, as that might be unachievable in the end.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: If you could give any advice to future seniors, what would it be?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cTake in every moment! Don\u2019t wish away all of your time. You\u2019ve worked <\/span>so <\/span><\/i>hard to get where you are, don\u2019t stop when you\u2019re at the peak. Sure, there\u2019s more work to do, there always will be, but if you\u2019ve made it this far, you\u2019ve proven time and time again that you can do all the hard things you\u2019re faced with! Take your time, reflect, and make memories with the people who matter most to you.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cI am involved in soccer, indoor and outdoor track, Key Club, National Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: As of right now, what are your plans for after high school?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cI plan to attend a four year college, but I am undecided on where.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What is your favorite memory?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cMy favorite memory is winning states with my track and field relay team.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cMy favorite quote is, \u2018You can\u2019t win if you aren\u2019t in the game.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What is something that you enjoy doing in your free time?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cOutside of school I enjoy hanging out with my friends and working out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cMy favorite movie is “Elf” because I enjoy Christmas movies and I love comedies.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What is a goal of yours for senior year?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cOne goal for senior year is to find a college that fits all of my needs and feels like home.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: If you could give any advice to future seniors, what would it be?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cI would tell future seniors to enjoy every moment, especially in sports or extracurricular activities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What sports, clubs, and\/or activities are you involved in? \"\"<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201c[I am] choir president, a PMEA Choir\/Band Festival Participant, International Thespian Society president, Musical Theater Club president, Theater Arts Club president, concert band treasurer, senior drum major of the Marching Warrior Band, Spanish Club treasurer, and Class of 2026 secretary. [I am also in] jazz band, Ville Harmonic Ensemble, the play and musical, Key Club, National Honor Society, Rho Kappa, MAHS Bible Study, and Student Government. [I am on] the Lady Warriors Varsity Tennis Team (2nd Singles) and dance at The Katie Benson School of Dance. [I am on] the Arrowhead Print Staff and am the Assistant Broadcast Editor as well.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: As of right now, what are your plans for after high school?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cAs of right now, I hope to attend Temple University to obtain a bachelor\u2019s degree in Music Education with a Vocal Concentration, as well as get a teaching certification in Theater.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What is your favorite memory?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cMy favorite memory is going to Disney with the choir and band last year! From the band\u2019s instrumental workshop, to singing in the Candlelight Processional, and even to the 20 hour bus ride, every moment was memorable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What is your favorite quote?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cStay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold.\u201d –The Outsiders<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Q: Do you have a favorite school tradition? If so, what is it?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cI always enjoy watching and being a part of the talent show on the last day of school before Christmas break!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What is something that you enjoy doing in your free time?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cI absolutely love singing, whether that be practicing choir music for PMEA festivals or just noodling around on my guitar or piano!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: Pick either a favorite singer\/band\/song, movie\/TV show, or book, and tell me a little bit about why it is your favorite!<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cMy favorite band is ABBA! They have a way of telling such a unique story in each one of their songs, and their music always puts me in a good mood. My favorite song, not just of ABBA\u2019s but of all time, is ‘Dancing Queen.’ ABBA\u2019s music also reminds me of my uncles and visiting them every summer which is always one of my favorite trips.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What is a goal of yours for senior year?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cA goal of mine for senior year is to be accepted into all of my top colleges and to have my auditions go well!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: If you could give any advice to future seniors, what would it be?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A: \u201cSenior year can get pretty busy and it\u2019s easy to feel a little lost, but you always have people to help you through it. Don\u2019t try to do it alone, and try to enjoy the process!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
