Montoursville gained a big win on Friday, August 22. The Warriors faced Wellsboro in the kickoff game of the football season, beating them 58-0, but even before the game team morale was high.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c[Morale] was definitely good, we were coming off two good weeks of practice, we felt great,\u201d said sophomore Eli Eck, the quarterback for that game. <\/span><\/p>\n

And those two good weeks were definitely made apparent by Montoursville\u2019s performance on the field. Scoring eight touchdowns, the Montoursville Warriors rarely took a break from moving the ball towards the end zone, even when playing defense.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cWhen you see the ball fall, there’s only one thing that goes through your head: BALL!\u201d That\u2019s what senior Carlos Tira had to say about recovering a ball Wellsboro fumbled, giving Montoursville the ball at the 28 yard line.<\/span><\/p>\n

The defense also played well in general. From preventing multiple running plays from getting another crucial set of downs, to keeping Wellsboro locked on their side of the fifty yard line. When asked about the defense quality, Gavin Bower\u2019s simple answer sums it up well.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was good.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In all, the Montoursville warriors gave an amazing performance all around. The defense was a wall and the offense was ruthless, leading to a game that will surely be remembered.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stop doing running plays, PLEASE!<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

One of Wellsboro\u2019s weakest points that night was an over reliance on running plays. <\/span><\/p>\n

I found myself saying, over and over, \u201cStop running the ball! Just throw!\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

I understand I\u2019m not the most well versed in football strategy, but I know when something isn\u2019t working. Even after the last few running plays had been stopped, Wellsboro would just try again. <\/span><\/p>\n

It may have not made enough of a difference, based on how badly we beat them, but it stands to reason they may have had a better performance if they didn’t have as much of a reliance on their running backs.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
