On April 9 and April 24, senior Reese Peterson took the Academic Decathlon online nationals test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peterson took first place overall in the state for varsity academic decathlon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was a really cool experience,\u201d Peterson said. \u201cThe thing I\u2019m proudest of isn\u2019t getting to nationals, it\u2019s seeing this team come together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peterson spent the year helping lead the Academic Decathlon team through scrimmages, meets, and the state competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Academic Decathlon adviser Mr. Mitch Hart said that this was the first year competitors could qualify as an individual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe did all the work, Reese taught himself stuff, he led the team, he did an awesome job, and he makes everything fun,\u201d Hart said. \u201cI wasn\u2019t completely surprised when they announced him on the stage, it was a great moment.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n

The theme of this year\u2019s test was the 1920s. Peterson took the test on literature, science, music, art, economics, social science, math, and he wrote an essay on The Great Gatsby<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the national level, Peterson took bronze in music, essay, and overall as well as taking silver in economics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peterson will be attending King’s College in the fall to double major in economics and international relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe team didn\u2019t score quite high enough to make nationals, but I’m really proud us overall,\u201d Peterson said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
