MAHS sophomore dives into record-breaking territory

“You got this. Just have fun, that’s when you do your best,” said Allie Eberhart’s diving coach. Eberhart was in third place, and knew that her last three dives needed to be perfect if she wanted to make it to states.

Her coach’s advice must have worked some magic, because Eberhart pulled into first place, and was named the district champion.

“Seeing Allie win brought a lot of excitement,” said Eberhart’s mom. “I was very proud of her determination and hard work and seeing it pay off.”

Determination and hard work are just the start of some of Eberhart’s strengths. She balances many other sports and activities on top of diving, and still always manages to be on the top of her game.

“I am on the track and volleyball teams. I also play club volleyball during diving season.”

Eberhart is always focused when it comes to training, working out, and practicing for any of her sports. But diving is an especially demanding sport, requiring lots of Eberhart’s time and effort.

“Our workouts start with 150 to 275 abs depending on the day, and then we stretch,” said Eberhart. “When we get on the board we start with two front and back take offs, then we do a bounce drill, then two to four of each dive, then at the end we sit in the hot tub.”

Motivation is key when taking part in such a competitive and daunting activity such as diving. For Eberhart, she finds motivation in telling herself “to have a good attitude.”

“I just think that I’m living someone’s dream and there are many people that don’t get opportunities like this,” Eberhart said. “I also would not have the motivation I need to succeed if it was not for my coach and my teammates on the swim team. Another thing that motivates me is knowing that no matter what, my family will always be there to support me.”

Believe it or not, Eberhart has only been diving for a short time.

“What made me want to try diving was when I quit gymnastics, my mom kept telling me that I should try diving, that I would really like it, and I kept telling her no,” said Eberhart. “Then my friend from gymnastics that also quit texted me and was like ‘Do you want to try diving?’ and I finally gave in and I am so glad I did because it is my favorite sport and has given me new friendships I will forever be grateful for.”

Eberhart’s mom loves watching her dive, and is proud of how she has progressed so much in just the two years she’s been diving.

She said, “My favorite part of watching Allie dive is seeing how much she is continuing to grow and improve with the sport. I love seeing her passion and smile (most of the time) with each dive.”

One of Eberhart’s diving teammates, Clover Lindsay, describes her as “very energetic and enthusiastic.”

Given that description, it’s not hard to believe that Eberhart is having fun and enjoying herself, which is crucial when participating in a sport.

“My favorite part about diving is the friends I made at meets and the bus rides to meets with my friends,” said Eberhart.

Eberhart surely has a bright future ahead. As only a sophomore in high school, and already holding a district title, one can only imagine where she will be in her future years of the sport.

When faced with the question of what her future looks like, Eberhart said, “My future plans are finishing my last two years of high school diving and then maybe going to college for diving.”
