Each month, the coaches from the selected athletic teams choose a senior they strongly believe is their athlete of the month. The qualities a coach looks for in this decision are leadership, hard work, good sportsmanship, and one that gives their best effort every day. Senior Gabe Vanderwall represents the wrestling team this month.

Q: Do you have any superstitions or pre-game rituals?
A: “My pregame rituals are listening to music and pacing back and forth to try and focus.”
Q: What is your favorite song to listen to on away-game bus rides?
A: “My favorite song to listen to on away bus rides is ‘Babydoll’ by Dominic Fike.”
Q: What is your favorite pre-game snack and or drink?
A: “My favorite pregame snack is rice cakes and my favorite drink is a blue ‘gatorlyte.’”

A: “My favorite motivational quotes are “It always seems impossible until it’s done” and “The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” – Mark Twain
Q: What advice would you give to younger players?
A: “I would give the advice that worrying about how a competition will go only hinders your performance.”
Q: Which college are you looking to attend and what is your current major of interest?
A: “ I am looking to attend either Duquesne University or Penn State for Biomedical engineering.”
Q: How many years have you played soccer?
A: “I have wrestled for 13 years.”
Q: How many hours of sleep do you try to get the night before your game?
A: “ I try to get 10 hours of sleep before competitions.”
