The evening after Valentine’s Day entailed lots of music, dancing, and fun with friends (or a sweetheart) for those who attended the annual winter formal.
After the Student Government stopped holding the dance, it was picked up this year by the Class of 2029 and was used to raise funds for future events.

Librarian Mrs. Misty Emick serves as the adviser for the Class of 2029. She and McCall Family and Consumer Science teacher Mrs. Julie Quick worked together to bring the dance to life.
In order to prepare, they had to order and make crowns and sashes, buy and set up decorations, and find chaperones. Student Government Adviser Mr. Richard DeLong helped by organizing and sending out information about the court.
Freshman Emerson Metzger also took part in organizing the dance. Along with that, she helped set up and tear down the event.
“There’s always been a winter dance. There’s homecoming and prom, which [for the latter] younger students can’t go to. So we want another dance in between for younger students to go to,” said Metzger.
Concessions, including chips, candy, beverages, and even boxes of chocolate were sold to support the Class of 2029.

The main event was the revealing of the formal court, in which members were voted on by teachers and the senior class. Each pair came down the cafeteria steps while their plans for after graduation were announced.
Seniors Grace Barkauskas and Carlos Tira were crowned as the king and queen of the winter formal court.
“I wasn’t expecting it. I’m not very competitive, so I would’ve been excited for whoever won. I was especially excited to be crowned with Carlos,” said Barkauskas.
Barkauskas’s favorite part of the dance was getting to see everyone on the court go down and see their future plans.
“My favorite part of the dance was being with a big group of friends and having everyone together,” said Metzger.

The profit made from the dance will go toward paying back money from homecoming floats and funding future class activities. Money from the concession stand at fall football games supported the formal.
