Every month, the Montoursville Lions Club picks two seniors to recognize as Students of the Month. The Arrowhead is not responsible for choosing the Students of the Month.

Marek Hill

Parents: Mia Mitchell and Kevin Hill

Q: What sports, clubs, and/or activities are you involved in?

A: “I am involved in Warrior Custom Cut.”

Q: What are your plans for after high school?

A: “I plan to go into either Construction or Welding after high school.”

Q: What is your favorite memory?

A: “My favorite memory is going to a dirt bike track for the first time with my buddies.”

Q: What is your favorite quote?

A: “My favorite quote is ‘I’m a dog chasing cars. I wouldn’t know what to do if I caught one. You know, I just…do things,’ by the Joker.”

Q: What is something that you enjoy doing in your free time?

A: “I enjoy riding my dirt bike and my golf cart around my property.”

Q: What is a goal of yours for the rest of senior year?

A: “A goal of mine is to pass all of my classes with good grades, and just have fun.”

Q: If you could give any advice to future seniors, what would it be?

A: “Don’t give up. You’re at the end of the road for your high school career, why ruin what you worked so hard to build? Most importantly, have fun. There aren’t going to be many days like this after you graduate.”

Evelyn Weng

Parents: Danhua Weng and Weibing Zhu

Q: What sports, clubs, and/or activities are you involved in?

A: “I am the treasurer of the Class of 2026, treasurer of Rho Kappa, treasurer of Student Government, treasurer of Health Science Club, President of Science National Honor Society, Vice President of Mu Alpha Theta, Minutes Secretary of Key Club, President of Future Business Leaders of America, I am in National English Honor Society, National Honor Society, the concert, jazz, and marching bands, and I dance at Katie Benson School of Dance.”

Q: What are your plans for after high school?

A: “I plan on attending the University of Pennsylvania to obtain a degree in Biology and pursue a career in health care or public health.”

Q: What is your favorite memory?

A: “I have a lot of great memories surrounding marching band season but this year’s season was extra special, especially with being on Homecoming Court, Senior night, and dressing up for the Halloween game.”

Q: What is your favorite quote?

A: “It always seems impossible until it’s done, by Nelson Mandela.”

Q: Do you have a favorite school tradition? If so, what is it?

A: “My favorite school tradition is Class Day. I really enjoy seeing the skits and performances and I think it’s a very special way to celebrate the seniors.”

Q: What is something that you enjoy doing in your free time?

A: “In my free time, I like to go shopping with my mom and just spend time with my family in general. I also really enjoy puzzles and Lego sets but I rarely have time to build those.”

Q: Pick either a favorite singer/band/song, movie/TV show, or book, and explain why it is your favorite!

A: “I have a lot of favorite artists but my current top artist is Noah Kahan. I really like how his lyrics tell stories and his songs contain a lot of emotional elements.”

Q: What is a goal of yours for the rest of senior year?

A: “My goal for the rest of senior year is to be open to trying challenging things and take advantage of new opportunities because I know that senior year goes by quickly and I want to make the most of it so I don’t have any regrets by the end.”

Q: If you could give any advice to future seniors, what would it be?

A: “I would tell future seniors to explore their interests and take advantage of every moment because time will fly by.”

Raigan Fredericks

Parents: Jennifer Dawes and Daniel Fredericks

Q: What sports, clubs, and/or activities are you involved in?

A: “I am on the soccer and softball teams, involved in National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Rho Kappa, Key Club, Young Life, and I am an UpWard volunteer basketball coach as well as the Editor-In-Chief of the Arrowhead school newspaper.”

Q: What are your plans for after high school?

A: “I am going to Liberty University in the fall of 2026 and I am going to major in Youth Ministry with a minor in Biblical Counseling.”

Q: What is your favorite memory?

A: “This past summer I got the opportunity to serve without pay at two summer camps for a total of 409 hours. One camp was in Michigan, and the other was in New York. I made so many new friends that have become family, and I grew in so many different ways.”

Q: What is your favorite quote?

A: “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning how to dance in the rain.”

Q: Do you have a favorite school tradition? If so, what is it?

A: “My favorite school tradition that I will finally be able to participate in this year is when the seniors walk the halls through Lyter, and now McCall. As an elementary student, I admired those older kids and was so excited to be able to be the one who walked the halls.”

Q: What is something that you enjoy doing in your free time?

A: “During my free time, I enjoy reading my Bible, photography, and teaching myself how to play guitar.”

Q: Pick either a favorite singer/band/song, movie/TV show, or book, and explain why it is your favorite!

A: “There’s a song by one of my favorite Christian music artists called ‘Hold On,’ by Katy Nichole. This is one of my favorite songs because it just resembles strength and hope to keep going, even through the harder days, even when there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. One lyric in this song is ‘You’ll find purpose in the pain.’ It’s just a beautiful song that is a driving force to never give up.”

Q: What is a goal of yours for the rest of senior year?

A: “A goal for the rest of senior year would have to be to give my all in my Dual Enrollment class at Lycoming College, as well as continue to build my leadership skills.”

Q: If you could give any advice to future seniors, what would it be?

A: “This year is going to have ups, downs, stress, tears, laughter, and maybe some crashouts, but through all of this it’s going to be the last year you have of the journey you’ve been on since kindergarten. This year is going to go by so fast, so make the most out of every moment, and don’t let your younger self down. Be proud of who you are and how far you’ve come.”

Reese Peterson

Parents: Elise and Jamie Peterson

Q: What sports, clubs, and/or activities are you involved in?

A: “I’m involved in Academic Decathlon, Mock Trial, FBLA, Rho Kappa, ConCon, Model UN, the School Board Student Representative, and marching band.” 

Q: What are your plans for after high school?

A: “After high school, I plan to attend college with a double major in Economics and International Affairs, potentially with a minor in Statistics.”

Q: What is your favorite memory?

A: “My favorite memory would be my sister’s wedding, which was October 13, 2023. It was such a fun day, and I was so proud of her!”

Q: What is your favorite quote?

A: “My favorite quote can be found from Abraham Lincoln, who said, ‘A compass, I learned while I was surveying, it’ll point you true north from where you’re standing but it’s got no advice about the swamps, deserts and chasms that you’ll encounter along the way.'”

Q: Do you have a favorite school tradition? If so, what is it?

A: “My favorite school tradition would probably be the senior day we have toward the end of the year, the one with all the superlatives and baby photos.”

Q: What is something that you enjoy doing in your free time?

A: “When I have free time I either spend it with my friends or I try to get some peace and quiet. I don’t have very much free time, so I value it greatly.”

Q: Pick either a favorite singer/band/song, movie/TV show, or book, and explain why it is your favorite!

A: “My favorite book right now is probably ‘The Thirty Years War: Europe’s Tragedy’. It’s an in-depth look into the complicated affairs involving the Thirty Years War, which lasted from 1618 to 1648. The parts I find most interesting are the diplomacy and the politics of the time.”

Q: What is a goal of yours for the rest of senior year?

A: “A goal of mine for the rest of this year is to make the best impact I can before I leave. I am hopeful that I can make a difference.”

Q: If you could give any advice to future seniors, what would it be?

A: “My advice to future seniors would probably be to not take on too much stuff your senior year. I love to keep myself busy, but often I wish I had a little more free time. Be careful to balance and divide your time properly.”

Shea Ulmer

Parents: Rachael Ulmer and Todd Ulmer

Q: What sports, clubs, and/or activities are you involved in?

A: “basketball, golf, Key Club, and Rho Kappa”

Q: What are your plans for after high school?

A: “I plan to attend West Chester University and pursue a career in psychology.”

Q: What is your favorite memory?

A: “My favorite memory is taking my AP Psychology class junior year with all of my friends. It also made me recognize my love for psychology and the human mind.”

Q: What is your favorite quote?

A: “‘You can’t be everything you want to be before your time,’ by Billy Joel.”

Q: Do you have a favorite school tradition? If so, what is it?

A: “My favorite school tradition is running out to the same song before every basketball game as a team.”

Q: What is something that you enjoy doing in your free time?

A: “I enjoy golfing, playing chess, and playing video games with my friends.”

A:  “Tyler Childers is my favorite musician because he made me love music and is an amazing storyteller in his writings.”

Q: What is a goal of yours for the rest of senior year?

A: “Finish stong and enjoy every second of it because it wont be here forever.”

Q: If you could give any advice to future seniors, what would it be?

A: “Slow down and don’t let the smallest problems determine how you feel.”

Emily George

Parents: Tom and Jamie George

Q: What sports, clubs, and/or activities are you involved in?

A: “I am a captain of the basketball and softball teams, Vice President of Science National Honor Society, I am a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Student Government, Homecoming Committee, Spanish Club, Key Club, Health Science Club, and Yearbook Staff.”

Q: What are your plans for after high school?

A: “I am going to be attending Penn College to major in nursing in hopes to receive my master’s and become a nurse practitioner. I also will be continuing to play softball and basketball at the collegiate level.”

Q: What is your favorite memory?

A: “My favorite memory throughout high school has been playing sports with friends and learning good lessons from those sports.”

Q: What is your favorite quote?

A: “’It’s very important to surround yourself with people that see you fully,’ by SZA.”

Q: Do you have a favorite school tradition? If so, what is it?

A: “My favorite school tradition nowadays is going to Geisinger every Wednesday to work in the hospital.”

Q: What is something that you enjoy doing in your free time?

A: “I enjoy going shopping and thrifting with my friends, and getting fun drinks.”

Q: Pick either a favorite singer/band/song, movie/TV show, or book, and explain why it is your favorite!

A: “One of my favorite songs at the moment is ‘I’ve Seen It’ by Olivia Dean because it tells and describes a really good story and I can relate to it a lot right now in my senior year.”

Q: What is a goal of yours for the rest of senior year?

A: “My goal is to have as much fun as possible the rest of the year and challenge myself to try new things because soon high school will be over before I know it.”

Q: If you could give any advice to future seniors, what would it be?

A: “Take everything one step at a time and do not hyperfixate on every little thing that goes on. Remember to take a deep breath, refocus, and look at the bigger picture of things.”
