Living With Lindsay: Welcome to Senior Year

Living With Lindsay

2026 felt so far away in 2013.

It started to get real when I was standing on the footprints in front of a green screen, smiling at a camera. Three flashes, and my senior yearbook photo was done.

A week later, I spent a night with the best photographer I know, my mom. We had been dreaming of the day we would get to take my senior pictures together. We carefully planned the perfect outfits, had hundreds of poses saved off of Pinterest, and places set aside for the rest of my unlimited sessions we have in mind.

Then it was the last day of summer vacation. I spent the day with my closest friends, painting our car windows with cute flowers, stars, and senior year sayings. We had strawberry cream cheese bagels and cute cups of coffee, and we talked about what the future held for us. Some things were sad, some things were scary, some things felt like they were a million years away, and some things we couldn’t wait for.

Senior sunrise was one of the things that we just kept going back to, like we couldn’t bear to stop talking about it.

“What is everyone wearing?”

“How long are we going to stay?”

“Who is bringing blankets?”

“Who is bringing food?”

“Is someone bringing a camera?”

Senior sunrise is a symbolic way of starting off your senior year. It is supposed to show that it is the start of a new beginning, and that we have a great year ahead of us. And then, at graduation in a few months, we will see the sunset and it will close out this chapter of our lives.

The year has just begun, but has already been busy beyond what any of us were expecting. There is still so much we have to do, and it feels like we are going to be here forever. But we know that that’s not the case, and that this year is going to go by in the blink of an eye. So I am making sure to cherish these moments, no matter how big or small, because deep down inside I know that this is our last chance to make memories with everyone we’ve grown up with, and I hope that everyone else feels the same and is not wishing the time away.

Love, Lindsay

I think I easily have one of the best friend groups ever. That might be biased, but I don’t really care. We’ve been friends since elementary school, and we have managed to come this far, to senior year, still all together. We’ve seen each other’s bests, like perfect test scores, laughing fits at sleepovers over inside jokes, getting the lead in the school musical, and getting our first jobs. But we have also seen each other’s worsts, like bad haircuts, messy breakups with boyfriends, crashed cars, and crying with mascara running down our faces. We have quite literally watched each other grow up. I think we have lasted this long because of all of the things we have in common. We all have big personalities, some might even say star qualities. So just like any other girl, we all longed to be on the Homecoming Court our senior year.

Something that I always remember thinking when I opened the school website when I was younger, was that I wanted to be one of the pretty girls in the parade in the fall. Riding in a cool car, waving to the whole town, throwing candy, and getting pictures taken like a celebrity. What teenage girl wouldn’t want to do that? The whole concept of it was still so bizarre to me, I didn’t know that it was Homecoming, or how the voting worked, and I certainly did not expect to be on it my senior year.

But when I heard my name get announced, I think I might have screamed. Not only because I was on it, but because every other name that was called was one of my friends.

Spending two weeks of dress up spirit days, dinners, and meetings with these girls was a dream of mine all of high school. Looking back on all of the pictures of our days we spent together, and things like the parade, the football game, and the dance, makes me incredibly grateful for getting to be one of the lucky girls who got to experience this, and I want to thank every single girl on the court for making lifelong memories with me!
