FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL and FRIES: Southern Columbia and Senior Night

Despite a valiant effort, Montoursville lost to Southern Columbia last Friday, October 10 16-26. A 10-point difference may seem significant, but it exceeded expectations for a game against Southern Columbia.

The game started off well for the Warriors, with a deep kick return for the first play and an early field goal that put the Warriors at 3-0. There was a moment where Montoursville was brought to a third town, but they prevented a 4th down situation with a move similar to the Eagle’s tush push.

And in the second quarter, the game surprisingly continued to seem in the Warriors’ favor. Multiple sacks and a decent offense made this insurmountable opponent seem beatable.

“This is a David and Goliath game right here” Reese Peterson, band senior said “And right now, we’re winning.”

But late in the second quarter, tides started to shift. Montoursville was pushed back almost to the goal line, in danger of a safety, but they were given room to breathe by a difficult catch in traffic.

The Warriors also seemed to briefly rally after multiple stops and running plays by Christian Banks, but that hope was shut down after Southern Columbia intercepted a pass, and continued moving the ball right into the endzone.

After that, it seemed the Warriors’ fate was sealed. In the fourth quarter, five minutes from the end of the game, the score was 16-26. Two more touchdowns would have to happen, but that just didn’t seem possible. The Warriors lost its senior night game 16-26. They will stay at the number two seat in the division.

And now, the fries: a review

The fries were quite good this week. They were full, salty, greasy, just how stadium fries should be. Like any stadium meal, a soda is necessary, and a Coca-Cola suits the fries well. I would recommend eating these fries without sauce, as the fries this week hit a delicate balance when it came to their taste, and condiments could throw that off.
