Ski Club enjoys trip to Holiday Valley

What is Ski Club, and what do they do?

Ski Club is a club that Montoursville offers to all students from fifth to twelfth grade. The club takes students to Ski Sawmill and Montage Mountain at discounted prices. Thanks to Mrs. Linda Keiser, the adviser of the club, students get to enjoy time on the slopes after school and on weekends.

The club typically takes a trip to Killington, Vermont, but with the small amount of interest, Keiser looked for an alternative trip. She brought up the idea of going to Holiday Valley, New York. More students became interested in this trip due to the significant cost decrease. Keiser took two vans with around fourteen students to Holiday Valley.

“My favorite thing about the trip was being able to ski at almost any time,” said senior Allyson Witter. The students stayed in a ski-on-and-off hotel where the students could go out and ski from opening to closing just by walking a few feet to the lift.

The students’ skill levels ranged from beginner to experts, some students like Witter and Laila Shreck have been skiing ever since they could remember, from around age two.

“We did lots of wood skiing …” said junior Bryce Carey. Carey said he has been skiing for only five years and was able to enjoy the powder snow in the woods at Holiday Valley.
