Students will have the opportunity to visit the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C this spring on April 17.
The English department was given a grant by the Lycoming County Brotherhood Alliance to fund this trip so interested students can attend at no cost.
Students had to write a letter of interest stating why they would like to be considered to be chosen for the trip. There are only 47 seats on this trip so the Sophomore English teachers, Mrs. Sandra Trick, Ms. Rebecca Lundy, and Mrs. Alissa Martin, will choose the 47 most interested students based on their letter of interest to attend the trip.
Attending students also have to write a post trip reflection through a Google Form that will be shared with them before the trip so they know what is expected of them.
When picking students to attend Martin said, “ We plan to review the responses in a way that keeps student names anonymous and are judged solely based on content and genuine enthusiasm” and not based on grades.

The idea for this trip was brought to Vice Principal Mrs. Susan Wise by the Brotherhood Alliance, but previously Lundy had been interested in taking a similar trip that extended the classes’ study on the book “Night” by Elie Wiesel.
“Visiting the museum allows the students to further grasp the horrors of this time period and understand on a deeper level the necessity of Holocaust education,” Lundy said.
Trip members will be travelling by charter bus down to Washington and back. Also, students will not have to pay for their ticket as they are free to the public, they will only have to pay for their lunch.
Trick shared her and the department’s feelings about this trip.
“We are excited to offer this opportunity and we want to offer it to those who are most interested and feel they would gain the most from experiencing the Holocaust Museum.”
