Arrowhead staff competes in PSPA

Sophomore Tori McKenna takes photos of the PSPA presentations for her competition assignment. As a competitor in newspaper journalism, she took five photos including a personal profile shot, a frozen action shot, an academics shot, a musical shot, and a best-in-show shot, along with writing in-depth captions for each shot. During the event, she took photos of the testing room, the presentations, and the scenery throughout Bloomsburg University for her submission in the state competition if she qualifies.
While the Arrowhead print staff writes their stories, the broadcast staff watches presentations by professional and student journalists on improving the quality of stories. Junior Lilly Mcculloch, a member of the Arrowhead broadcast staff, competed in the podcast section of PSPA by creating a podcast less than 20 minutes long.
Sophomore Becca Teffeteller, a first-year member of the Arrowhead print staff writes her assigned story for the PSPA competition. “It was my first time writing a story in a limited time and it was very different than I expected,” she said. “It was really cool to see the different students writing, taking pictures, and watching the presentations.” Teffeteller wrote her story based on the techniques she learned from Journalism I. and writing stories this year.
Junior Raigan Fredericks writes her story for the PSPA competition. Fredericks, an Arrowhead editor, competed in the competition last year and said she noticed her improvement from one year to the next.
