Our area has recently been going under a lot of new projects to better the community. We went around to document updates and report about new businesses near us. Popeye’s, Toast’d Bagels, Marshalls, Weis, and Dunkin are just a few of the new additions. These additions will add improvements to the area and ultimately make it a better place to live.
Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen
After almost a half-century of being in business, Popeye’s finally installed itself on the Golden Strip in Loyalsock Township. The Louisiana Kitchen drew a crowd on its opening day. I was one of the many people who ordered food from there that day, an eight-piece nugget combo and a cinnamon apple pie, to be exact.
Overall, I thought the food was pretty good. They had good customer service, and I will definitely be going back again. However, the first couple of weeks have been busy and if you don’t have good patience I do not suggest going because it might take some time before you get your food.
“Expectations were high. But compared to other fast food restaurants nearby, they have a good chicken sandwich” said Tyler Lepley.
Tyler and I both agree we would rate the new business a seven out of ten.
Toast’d Bagels
Christian Diggs and Hannah Summerson opened this new small business in Williamsport on 1009 Washington Blvd., the former Christian Light Bookstore.
Although their name is “Toast’d Bagels” they have a much wider variety of food for customers to choose from. Their options expand from smoothies, coffee, and hot chocolate to breakfast sandwiches, breakfast platters, and even cheeseburgers.
I have been here for breakfast a few times, the service was great, and the owners are always welcoming. There are more breakfast dates at Toast’d Bagel for me.
Overall I would rate it a 9/10 and recommend it to anyone who asks.
Marshalls
This is the newest department store added to the Lycoming Crossing Shopping Center near the Lycoming Mall in Muncy.
In my opinion, this is a great addition to the area because it has name-brand items for a lower cost. This means instead of spending sixty dollars on a Champion sweatshirt, I only have to spend twenty.
And I know…I know there is a T.J. Maxx on the Golden Strip, but for most people in Montoursville, the Lycoming crossings are closer to get to and have a lot less traffic.
I would give this addition a 9/10 as well.
Weis’s new gas pumps
Weis Markets on North Loyalsock Avenue is revamping its store by adding gas pumps for customers. The project has taken place over a few weeks and is still in progress. Soon after you shop, it will be easy and convenient to fill up your gas tank.
I work at the Weis on Lycoming Creek Road, and I know how convenient it is to get gas after my shift. For those of you who don’t know about Weis’s Rewards Program, when you hop at Weis with a club card you earn points. One of the ways that you can use your points is for gas. You can save up to one dollar per gallon on your gas. To break it down, for every 100 points, you save 10 cents per gallon.
The closest location for Montoursville residents to use their gas rewards points is the Sheetz in Loyalsock Township. Soon, however, it will be easy and fast to get your gas and use your reward points.
Dunkin’
Dunkin’ on the Golden Strip closed down in August for remodeling and to make a two-lane drive-through.
If you have ever driven on East Third Street, you know just how crazy the drive-thru can be. Many Montoursville students used to go to Dunkin’ before school, but because it is closed, many are going to other places to get coffee instead.
Dunkin’ is scheduled to open back up in October. I have no doubt that they will get back into business quickly.
“I can’t wait for Dunkin’ to reopen because I have been driving all the way to Starbucks to get my coffee before school,” said Kyra Shaner.
