7th/8th Grade Middle School Electives for the 2019-20 School Year

As we start to put the finishing touches on the 2019-20 school year schedules, we need to know your child’s interest in their elective options for next school year.  We are trying something new  and using the technology available to us to streamline the selection process.  Core classes have been selected based on recommendations from counselors in addition to some other criteria, especially in mathematics.  7th and 8th grade students have the option to choose from the following:

Band, Chorus, Art 7 or Art 8, Family & Consumer Science(FCS 7/8), and Technology Education(7th Grade IA or 8th Grade IA)

Please log into the parent portal, where you will find a new tab called Course Requests.  Enter this area of the portal to check the recommendations and then create a New Request to select one of the 3 courses that appear in the drop-down menu.

If you should have any questions or would like to make changes to what has been recommended, please contact Mr. Myers at the middle school or Mr. Taormina at the high school.

For specific questions on the 7th grade math placement for the 19-20 school year, please email Mr. Taormina at dtaormina@montoursville.k12.pa.us.  We will be able to provide you specific reasons for the selection that was made.

All selections are due by July 28th, 2019.

FAQ

1.  Spanish is already in my child’s requests.  Can I still sign up for an elective?  Do they have to take Spanish?

There were recommendations made for Spanish I.  If your child was recommended for Spanish, it was placed in as a requested course.  You can still take an additional elective.  Please select from the drop down menu.  If you do not want Spanish, please contact Mr. Myers or Mr. Taormina and they will remove it from the requests.

2.  Can I select more than one elective?

You can select more than one elective, but understand they might not both fit in the final schedule.

3.  Do I have to select an elective?

No.  A study hall will be placed in the schedule.

4.  Do I need to know the course numbers to be able to select an elective?

No.  The drop-down menu has the names of the courses available for selection.
